About 4 years ago I thought I had pulled my groin muscle playing a game of pick-up basketball. It would start to feel better, but every few months it would start hurting again, so I figured I just aggravated it.
Well, after around 3 years the pain went from my groin area to all the way around my hip. That's when I realized it was something more serious than a pulled muscle. I kind of knew that it was my hip and that it was going to need a replacement; however, I put it off because I just couldn't afford to miss months of work.
Eventually, my hip got so bad that I had to go get it looked at and wanted the best to look at it so I chose Andrews Sports Medicine. From the time I walked in everything was first class. I saw Dr. Jeffrey Davis and he immediately told me my hip was done and that my options were hip replacement or hip resurfacing.
Of course I asked what was the difference in recovery time and why would you get one over the other. Dr. Davis explained that there was no difference in recovery time. He then explained that hip resurfacing allows you to be more active after the procedure than hip replacement.
I knew I wanted hip resurfacing when he explained that if I wanted to run more than a few blocks, or run to get and stay in shape then resurfacing would be the best option.
I had surgery less than a month after first seeing Dr. Davis and everything went great. I spent 3 days in the hospital. The staff, everyone from nurses to physical therapy, was top notch.
Two days after coming home I was walking without my walker or a cane, and three weeks later I was back working. My only regret is that I put it off so long because I thought I would be out of work for months. It's been a little over a month since my surgery, I walk without a limp, people don't believe me when I tell them I had hip resurfacing a month ago.
For anyone reading this, please do not put it off, you'll be back to normal and doing things you could never do before the surgery. Big thanks to Dr. Jeffrey Davis and the whole team at Andrews Sports Medicine - first class all the way!
