I had an appointment with Dr. Jody Ortega in late June, 2019 for an issue with my right ankle. At the appointment, Dr. Ortega quickly consulted with Andrews Sports Medicine's foot & ankle specialist, Dr. Norman Waldrop, about my condition.
When Dr. Waldrop came into the exam room he said I have a Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD) injury to my right ankle. Dr. Waldrop said I had one of the worst cases he has ever seen! I had a hole in the cartilage of my right ankle and I chipped my Talus bone.
So I had surgery July 24, 2019. Dr. Waldrop went in and put Arthrex BioCartilage in the place of the hole, but get this, the hole was so big that Dr. Waldrop's scope fell in the hole of my cartilage!
Currently, I'm in a boot with minimal weight on my leg, but doubters said I may never get back on the field/court/track. However, I refuse to believe them, because sports is my life, and I can't have a big part of my life gone, so I work hard every time in physical therapy.
Ultimate Edge Sports Medicine is the physical therapy place I go to, they go above and beyond to make sure I’m getting well, making sure I get the right things in my body to speed up the process, my physical therapist, Kimberly, is the easiest person to talk to, and she knows what she is doing. Hannah is another person at Ultimate Edge that is great, she is very loud, and loves her job, she is always hugging me, and does whatever it takes to make sure I feel good.
I believe in myself and I know if nobody else does, God does, but I know that Dr. Waldrop believes in me. He is very positive and has believed in me the whole way. So, I hope everything goes well for everyone who has surgery or has had surgery!
Thanks Dr. Waldrop!
