Dr. Flanagan has been performing direct anterior total hip arthroplasty for the past 10+ years, giving patients a more rapid recovery and less post-operative restrictions. He is also highly-skilled in total knee replacement. Dr. Flanagan is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a Fellow of American College of Sports Medicine, a Diplomat of the American Board of Forensic Medicine and a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.

Dr. Flanagan took care of Birmingham's athletes on the field for more than 30 years, harkening back to the days of Coach Joe Campbell at Leeds High School. He has been passionate about amateur athletic sports since that time. He believes that returning the athlete to the field of play is the ultimate goal of sports medicine. He combines conservative care and surgical treatment in a compassionate setting.

Dr. Flanagan is married and has two grown children and two grandchildren. He enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, hiking and skiing. He is a big Auburn University athletics fan and has family in the Auburn/Opelika area.
