
BIOGRAPHY
Board certified by American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Fellow of American College of Sports Medicine, Diplomat of the American Board of Forensic Medicine, Member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.Dr. Flanagan received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Tex. He completed a surgery residency at the Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals in Houston and his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Alabama in Birmingham Medical Center. He also earned a Total Joint Fellowship with Sir Michael Freeman at the London Hospital, London, England.
Dr. Flanagan has been performing direct anterior total hip arthroplasty for the past 10+ years, giving patients a more rapid recovery and less post-operative restrictions. He is also highly-skilled in total knee replacement. Dr. Flanagan is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a Fellow of American College of Sports Medicine, a Diplomat of the American Board of Forensic Medicine and a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
Dr. Flanagan took care of Birmingham's athletes on the field for more than 30 years, harkening back to the days of Coach Joe Campbell at Leeds High School. He has been passionate about amateur athletic sports since that time. He believes that returning the athlete to the field of play is the ultimate goal of sports medicine. He combines conservative care and surgical treatment in a compassionate setting.
Dr. Flanagan is married and has two grown children and two grandchildren. He enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, hiking and skiing. He is a big Auburn University athletics fan and has family in the Auburn/Opelika area.

As a Certified Physician Assistant, Eve has worked alongside Dr. James A. Flanagan since 2008. She assists Dr. Flanagan in the evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic orthopedic conditions. Her skills are utilized both in the clinical setting as a provider, as well as in the operating room as a surgical assistant, where she assists Dr. Flanagan with direct anterior total hip arthroplasty as well as total knee, shoulder and wrist replacements.
Eve earned her bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is Board Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Eve is also a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
In addition, she also has a bachelor's degree in biological sciences from the University of Georgia. Eve began her career in Athens, GA in 1999, working for the University of Georgia team doctors.
Eve and her husband, Nes, have 3 children: Amberli (9), Tenley (7) and Avery (5). She enjoys family time, watching movies, running, outdoor play, singing and playing piano for church.
