Medical Icon Meniscus Tear

I am Shelton Aycock from Madison, MS. Growing up, I loved what most boys do, sports. If I wasn't playing a sport, I was always on our family farm helping in any way I could. I grew up playing football, baseball, basketball, and track.

In the 9th grade, a little slip on the basketball court would begin to cause a domino effect of many injuries for me. In 9th grade, I had a meniscus tear with surgery, played my entire 10th grade year with no problem, 10th grade had a meniscus repair with surgery, missed my junior year of football, and then my senior year, I tore my meniscus again and the meniscus was removed, but I was still able to play my senior year.

As the years went by, with lots of pain and injections, I was ready for an answer for long-term wellness of my body and knee. At the age of 26, I sent my files to Andrews Sports Medicine and little did I know the next steps would change my life forever. The clinic accepted me as a patient and directed me to Dr. Dugas.

Within 30 seconds of meeting Dr. Dugas, I knew this man was the man who could get me back on my feet. Dr. Dugas had the best bedside manner in taking care of his patient and assuring my loving family that he would take care of me. I have a very close family so those words he spoke to us that day assured us that he had my best interest at heart. He suggested a meniscus transplant and within no time, I had my match. What a great surgery. Six months later, I had an ACI surgery to repair the chondrocyte. What another great surgery.

Since these two surgeries and the help of Dr. Dugas and their great staff, I am back on my feet. I am working every day, hunting, contributing on the family farm, and working out every day. I wouldn't be where I am without Dr. Dugas and his staff. They have been a blessing in my life and for that I will always be grateful.
