Kim
Daniel C. Kim, MD, MS, is the newest member of The Spine Center at Andrews Sports Medicine.
Dr. Daniel C. Kim is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic spine surgeon. He treats patients with cervical, thoracic, and lumbar issues. Dr. Kim's goal is to provide the best standards in spine care, from spinal deformity surgery to minimally invasive procedures.
Dr. Kim is a highly respected spine specialist who has gained a national reputation for his surgical skill and expertise. In 2022, Dr. Kim was recognized by the North American Spine Society's (NASS) SpineLine "20 Under 40" list of the top spine surgeons in the country.
Dr. Kim is deeply committed to providing the most efficient and optimal quality of care for patients using innovative technology. He was the first spine surgeon in Birmingham, Alabama to offer endoscopic spine surgery - an advanced, state-of-the-art, minimally-invasive surgery designed to provide patients with a quicker recovery and less recurring pain than traditional methods.
Dr. Kim states, "I want my patients who drive an hour or more from rural Alabama to receive the same exact quality of care in my office and operating room as they would if they were in Chicago, New York, or Los Angeles."
Dr. Kim has always been fascinated with the intersection between healthcare and technology fields. Growing up in Silicon Valley, he became drawn to the innovation technology offered in the surgical field, particularly in spine care. His early exposure traveling and studying around the country cemented his desire to ensure more efficient and optimal quality of care for his patients through the use of evolving technology.
Originally from San Francisco, California, Dr. Kim earned bachelor's degrees in physiology and Spanish from the University of California, Los Angeles. He also earned a master's degree in physiology from Georgetown University. Dr. Kim earned his medical degree from the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He then completed his orthopedic surgery residency training at the University of South Alabama, where he served as Academic Chief Resident. Dr. Kim also completed a Spine fellowship at one of the birthplaces of modern spine surgery, Twin Cities Spine Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Outside of work, Dr. Kim can be found exploring the outdoors and engaging in activities such as soccer, golf, tennis, or hiking. He and his wife welcomed their first child, a son, in August, 2023.

Back in Birmingham, my condition deteriorated further, and paralysis fully set in. Amidst skepticism and neglect from other medical professionals, Dr. Daniel C. Kim stood out as a beacon of hope. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Dr. Kim quickly diagnosed an abscess on my spine linked to the kyphosis. An immediate surgical intervention by Dr. Kim saved me from the brink of permanent paralysis. Reflecting on that critical moment, I realized that without Dr. Kim's swift action, walking again would have been an impossibility.
