BIOGRAPHYSamuel R. Goldstein, MD effectively retired from practice December 31, 2020. He will continue to follow surgical patients who have had recent surgery until March 2021.
Marcus A. Rothermich, MD has taken Dr. Goldstein's place at Andrews Sports Medicine, serving patients at our Birmingham and Trussville clinic locations. Dr. Rothermich completed a sports medicine fellowship at Andrews Sports Medicine with Drs. Lyle Cain and Jeff Dugas.
Dr. Goldstein is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He has presented papers and instructional course lectures for the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He has served on the Technology Committee of the Arthroscopy Association since 2005. He specializes in sports medicine, arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder, and general orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Goldstein earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of Alabama and his medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. He completed his internship at Baptist Medical Centers in Birmingham and his Orthopedic Surgery residency at the University of South Alabama.
Dr. Goldstein has been in private practice in Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Birmingham since 1989. He is the team orthopedic surgeon for Trussville High & Middle Schools, Pinson Valley, Mortimer Jordan, Pleasant Grove, Springville, St. Clair County, Oneonta, Cleveland, Locust Fork, Southeastern and Susan Moore High Schools. He has provided sideline coverage for these and other Cherokee, DeKalb, Jefferson and Shelby County high schools since 1994.
Dr. Goldstein and his wife Denise have four married children and two grandchildren. He enjoys cycling, golf and snow skiing.

Jenny Degnan MPAS, PA-C
Jenny Degan works closely alongside Dr. Samuel Goldstein to assist in the evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic athletic and orthopedic related injuries. Her skills are utilized both in the clinical setting as a provider, as well as in the operating room as a surgical assistant. She helps to provide sideline coverage for Mortimer Jordan, Oneonta, Pinson Valley, Pleasant Grove, Springville, St. Clair & Blount County high schools. She is committed to providing top quality and compassionate health care to both the sports medicine and general orthopedic populations.
